IL MUSEO

“It doesn't worth a button!”

The one that invented this expression surely was one that had just worn wooden or iron ones cause people: high social level people, beginning from high Middle Age used silver and gold buttons and kings worn ones with diamonds, pearls, precious stones ... realized by great goldsmiths and sculptors!

Not speaking about those levels buttons, it ramains to "normal" collectors a myriad of pieces: with strass and iron studs, black glass-paste, murrina, micromosaic... and these are just example.

Buttons collectionism it's widespread beginning from 1,800 in the United States, in Japan, in the United Kingdom, France and in other European countries where important museums and private collections are open to visitors. In Italy thera are not so many collectors so as dedicated Museums, even if some historical collection can be seen in several Decorative Arts' museums.

Now we can add to them our MUSEO STORICO DEL BOTTONE (Button's Historical Museum), located in Vigorovea, 15 kms/9 mil. from Padua and 26 mil. from Venice, associated with Wigwam Circuit of associations that meet criteria of environmental compatibility and solidarity.

Our Museum hosts part of a collection and research started more than two decades ago, with specimens coming from all over the world: Italy of course but France, United Kingdom, United States, Japan and they covering an historical period that goes from XVIIth century till 1970. Captions and texts will tell you about the exhibition specimens and their histories, sometimes romantic!

You will know them visiting the Museum with the curators guide and you can know them also reading our Book, Il bottone racconta, Button tells, only in Italian by now, but we hope to have it translated in English soon.

Due to its cultural value and for its historical, sociological and artistic testimonies the collection is considered valid to appear in province of Padua and the Municipality of Sant'Angelo di Piove di Sacco museum's circuit.
